SCA Fall and Black Light Dances
The Benton SCA will be sponsoring a "Fall Dance" on Friday, October 24th from 3-5 PM for 6th grade only.  Doors open at 3:00 PM and refreshments will be sold throughout the dance. Please click on the following link to access information about the dance and the permission form.

SPECIAL DATES/INSTRUCTIONS:

1)  Personalization and Icons CANNOT be ordered after 1/21/2015;
2)  Online Sales continue until 5/24/2015;
3)  Paper Order forms DUE to Ms. Roy (1206) by 5/24/2015 (cash or check payable to Benton MS);
4)  Remaining yearbooks sold for cash sales after pre-ordered yearbooks have been distributed to students;
5)  YEARBOOK COST INCREASES TO $35 AFTER 5/24/2015.

Cougar Bank
Cougar Bank will be opening on Tuesday, September 23rd.
Cougar Bank is located in Benton's "Mixing Bowl"
(in front of the library).
Operated by Cardinal Bank adult employees and Benton's Cougar Bank Club students, Cougar Bank provides a great opportunity for all Benton students to save money and to earn interest. Students can open new accounts or deposit money to existing accounts during Cougar Bank hours every
Tuesday between 8:00 and 8:15 AM during homeroom.
Career Day
Please mark your calendars...
Benton Middle School will host Career Day on Tuesday, November 18, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. We are currently soliciting parents and community supporters to participate in this important event.  The program is designed to assist our eighth grade students learn about the duties, responsibilities, educational requirements, and training necessary for various careers.
What is involved?
Participants will be set up at tables which students visit to conduct an informal interview.  Questions such as "What do you do during a typical day?" or "How much education/training do you need?" "What is the most challenging thing about your career?" are asked by our students.
How do I sign up?
Complete the attached form and return it to the Counseling Department via your student, or by fax (703-791-0977), or mail it to the attention of Mrs. Stone, Counseling Department, Benton Middle School, 7411 Hoadly Road, Manassas, VA 20112.  Please contact the Benton Counseling Department at 703-791-0727 if you have any questions, or email Mrs. Stone, 8th Grade Counselor,

Code of Behavior 2014-15
Please take some time to review the 2014-2015 PWCS Code of Behavior.
Parent Portal Information
Parents/Guardians: If you had a Parent Portal account last year, your account is still active and you can log in using the same username/password. For parents/guardians new to PWCS, or for those who did not have an account last year but who want one now, registration is now open. Click Parent Portal > Login > Request Account to register. After registering, your login information will be sent via e-mail and can be activated at Benton Middle School between the hours of 8:00 am - 3:30 pm. Please be prepared to show a picture ID. If you have any questions about the Parent Portal, please check the Parent Portal FAQs.
After School Pick-Up Procedures
For your child's safety please utilize the pick up space in the car loop directly across from the school to pick up your child. Please remember there should not be any parking in the yellow marked areas as those are designated as fire lanes and it is a violation of Virginia State Law. Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated.

Please read the following about Athletic Tryouts for 2014-15:


It is Mandatory for all try-out participants to have two forms on file, with the Benton Middle School Athletic Department, in order for a student to try-out for any sport.  It is highly recommended for participants to turn in valid forms sooner than later.  Please do not wait until the first day of tryouts.
 
  1.  Prince William County Athletic Physical Form - 2014-15
  2.  Concussion Training Card
PWCS Athletic Physical Form
The required Prince William County Athletic Physical Forms can be downloaded in the Benton website under the Athletic Tab.
Athletic Physicals must be current from May 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015 of the succeeding year.
Prince William County Physical Exams will be offered at Benton Middle School on
Thursday August 28, 2014.  The exams will start at 3:00 p.m. in the main gym.  The cost is $27.00, and checks should be made payable to "Family Medicine".

 
Concussion Training
Concussion Training is required by all Prince William County Schools.
     Face-to-face training:  Middle Parents and Students who are trying out for a sport for their first time in middle school must attend a face-to-face training at their respective school.   Participants should bring their valid PWCS Physical Form to Concussion Training sessions.

Benton Face to Face Trainings dates and times are posted on the Benton web page under the Athletic tab.   
     Online training: Parents and students who have participated in a middle school face-to-face training previously are eligible to complete the online training to meet the middle school participation requirements. At the conclusion of the online training, you will print out a certificate that verifies that the student and his/her parent and/or guardian have taken the training. You will then present the certificate to the Benton Middle School Athletic Department. Online training will be available in English and Spanish.  The online presentations are scheduled to be available after July 15, 2014 and are located at the following link:

Try-Outs for all sports are limited to three specific days. Participants are to attend all three days. All try-outs will be 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Students must be picked up promptly at 5:30 p.m.
 

FYI- Your current PWC Athletic Physical Form should be brought to Face to Face Concussion Training Sessions.  Online certificates are to be attached to your PWC Athletic Physical Form and brought to Benton starting Monday, August 25, 2014.
